If you have ever sincerely prayed to receive Christ as your Savior, your faith in Christ has made you a true child of God. (John 1:12). Says "as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name."
Last time we saw how believers are in Christ, while Christ lives in the believer. Now let us further consider what the Bible actually says about the liberating impact of this twin truthI am in Christ and Christ is in me. (1 Corinthians 12:13). "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body . . ." (Romans 6:3,4). "Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptised into Christ Jesus have been baptised into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life" (Colossians 3:3). "For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God." Several years ago I knew a little boy who had leukemia. At that time he was only seven, and he had to go to the doctor every three months for a spinal injection. On one visit the doctor asked the boy why he did not cry like other boys and girls when the needle penetrated his spine. "Oh yes, it hurts," said the boy, "but, doctor, the needle has to go through the hand of Jesus before it touches me." It is wonderful to know that because you are now in Christ, He is able to handle everything that tests and touches your life! That's faith! Just as you received the Lord Jesus by faith, so it is the same principle of faith that enables you to trust the sufficiency of the Lord Jesus Christ to meet every demand of life. (Colossians 2:6) says "As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him." Though you have been born again, God does not expect you to just copy the life of Jesus. Millions of Christians have tried to do this and always without success. But God tells us of His wonderful provision for our Christian lives. We have already died in Christ. And being dead in Christ, we are dead to all the demands and condemnation of the Old Testament law. We are dead to every confidence in ourselves to live the spiritual life. But, praise God, we are gloriously alive to all the protecting and enabling sufficiency of the risen Lord Jesus Christ! |
